2/21/10

I want to first thank everyone who bought a copy of the Hit for Haiti event. A good amount of money was raised and we’re still going. I plan to do the exact same thing for second exhibition event (Hit for Haiti 2) happening on March 12th in Indian Wells. It will feature Federer and Sampras vs Agassi and Nadal in doubles. I will be forwarding all proceeds from that to relief in Haiti just like Hit for Haiti 1.

As for new matches, just a few. Ones that stand out are Henin Dementieva from the Australian Open as well as Gasquet Youzhny (in French) which was an incredible 5 setter.

Starting this week with Montreal, matches recorded from now on will be offered in 16:9 widescreen. If you do not have a 16:9 widescreen tv don’t worry. The DVDs will be produced in such a way that you can still view them in fullscreen 4:3 as long as you use the pan&scan option that is available on nearly all DVD players (that means no annoying black bars on the top and bottom like some people hate!) No matter what the shape of your tv is, these DVDs will look great.

None of this applies to old matches (matches listed prior to Montreal 2009). They will remain the same format they are.

If you have any questions about this feel free to respond to this email.

Just a quick note to say the remaining Wimbledon matches are now available. Please check the website for the full list of available Wimbledon matches. To those who ordered the pending matches, thanks for your patience and you will have your order shipped promptly.

IMPORTANT NEWS –

Beginning with the US Open series this year, all matches recorded from then on will be in true widescreen (16:9 picture ratio). With the recent digital transition and the migration to HDTVs, this is an inevitable step. For those of you who don’t prefer this and like the classic fullscreen view for 4:3 ratio televisions can use the Pan&Scan feature on your TV or DVD player to watch them in 4:3.

This does not apply to past matches. All past matches will remain as they are. This change will also not change the video quality for better or worse. They will still be DVD quality.

12/31/08

I want to say happy holidays to all and sorry for the delay in newsletters!

There is a problem I have discovered with the New York Mens Doubles final match. The match stops at 4-3 second set. If you have ordered this match, please email me for a replacement.

Heres some good news! I will be making High Definition Blu-Ray disc matches available sometime soon during this coming season. At first only a select number of matches will be available in HD but much more will come. Now for the bad news - these will be significantly more expensive than DVDs due to the high cost of producing them. Unfortunately I cannot control but the cost is constantly falling as the world becomes more and more HD-friendly.

The biggest news this week is obviously the three exhibitions that Pete Sampras and Roger Federer played in Asia. Their first meeting in Seoul was what many expected it to be the Swiss star played at his prime level to take down the aged champion in a short, straight-set bout, 6-3, 6-4.

The second match is Malaysia was a closer contest. Neither man was able to break the other as Sampras held his own against Federer, hitting huge serves and crisp volleys. The tiebreakers were tightly contested, but the current world #1 player was able to hit the crucial passes and Pete made a few untimely errors.

The final match in Macau was a super performance by the retired man Sampras. Much like the match in Malaysia, both men were holding serve easily. Federer was unable to make a dent on the Sampras serve and Pete was too inconsistent on his returns. The first set tiebreak was extremely close, but Sampras was able to hit some crucial shots to win it. With a single break in the second set, Sampras served out the match with ease and won the final meeting.

What was intriguing about these matches is that Federer did not take it easy. Often exhibitions are light hearted, easy displays designed solely to entertain. While there were certainly some joyful moments, these two were playing hard and for real.

New Matches This Week

Clash of Times - Sampras vs Federer 2007

Federer vs Sampras - Seoul (6-4, 6-3)
Federer vs Sampras - Malaysia (7-6, 7-6)

11/04/07

Since the last Tennis Nexus Newsletter, two masters series tournaments have taken place. Both Madrid and Paris matches are now available.

The biggest story of these past few weeks is obviously the outstanding performance from the Argentine David Nalbandian. In two back to back masters series events, Nalbandian has beaten Federer twice, Nadal twice, Djokovic, Ferrer, and Gasquet. His play has been nearly flawless. Even if you arent a fan of this man, it is extremely interesting to watch him dismantle the greatest players in the world with an assassin-like efficiency.

The season should end on a high with a great masters cup field. Should Roddick withdraw in preparation for the Davis Cup final, Nalbandian will complete the field and that should be a serious threat to all involved. There is also a cloud around Davydenko. Though he is not currently suffering any injuries, his recent clashes with the ATP and chair umpires may just prompt him to withdraw as well, giving Murray a chance. Sampras and Federer are playing three exhibition matches soon after all of which will be available.

Though there are no additional matches being added to the website this week besides Madrid and Paris, you can expect many large additions to be made during the tennis off-season.

5/20/07

After a shaky couple of weeks that consisted of poor form and a shocking loss, Roger Federer returned to perfect form at the last possible moment. After losing the first set in the Hamburg final against Rafael Nadal due to poor performance, Federer was at risk of going down a break early in the second. Perhaps it was thoughts of his critics, or the thought of losing to Nadal yet again, but something possessed Roger Federer early in that second set. After saving break points he never looked back. He stormed on to take the second set 6-2 and crushed Nadal in the third set 6-0 thus ending the Spaniards extraordinary winning streak of over 80 matches on clay. Having achieved such pure vindication, Roger Federer will have new confidence going into Roland Garros the one major that he has yet to win. The biggest question now is can Roger Federer keep the perfect form that he displayed in those last two sets today over seven best-of-five set matches? He cannot afford a bad day in Paris. This years Roland Garros is one of the biggest trials the Swiss has ever faced.

Those distraught over Nadal's loss today may be pleased to see the list of new matches this week. They include several matches from 2003-2004 when Nadal was just starting out on the ATP tour. I want to make a special emphasis the 2003 Monte-Carlo match against Costa - a match many consider as one of Nadal's most important break-through matches.

Ever wonder what happened to Nadal after his first defeat of Federer back in the 2004 Miami tournament? Gonzalez managed to get him in three sets in the next round. Also part of the update this week is a couple of Richard Gasquet matches stretching all the way back to 2002.

Also in this week are a few more Rome matches and the doubles match between Nadal/Moya and Federer/Wawrinka.

New matches -

Nadal vs Costa (7-5, 6-3)(Monte-Carlo 2003)
Coria vs Nadal (7-6, 6-2)(Monte-Carlo 2003)
Nadal vs Mathieu (7-5, 6-4)(Hamburg 2003)
Gaudio vs Nadal (6-2, 6-2)(Hamburg 2003)

Gonzalez vs Nadal (7-6, 4-6, 6-2)(Miami 2004)
Spadea vs Nadal (6-4, 4-6, 6-3)(Madrid 2004)(Starts 2-1 first set)

Gasquet vs Squillari (7-6, 3-6, 7-5)(Monte-Carlo 2002)(Starts 2-1 second set, Gasquet is only 15!)

The Battle of Surfaces match, although late, is still on its way.

5/16/07

Rafael Nadal has done it again, winning the Rome masters series event for the third consecutive time. Fortunately for the fans, both he and Roger Federer are entered in the Hamburg tournament this week. Will Nadal win the tournament and hold all three clay court masters series trophies for the year? Or will Federer shake off his poor form and take the title for his fourth time? New matches this week include -

Rome 2007 (ATP)
Berlin 2007 (WTA)
Munich Final 2007

The Hamburg matches are being updated daily.

The Battle of Surfaces match has taken a bit longer than expected to arrive but it should be available this week. I will send out another special newsletter when it arrives.

Also next week I will be adding many more exciting matches from the past!

-------------------------------------

5/08/07

Here is the next great batch of matches. The first few matches feature Lleyton Hewitt in some of his more infamous matches. In the 2001 New York match against James Blake, Hewitt made a comment in the third set which was deemed racist by some. In the 2005 Melbourne match against Juan Ignacio Chela, the Argentine became so frustrated with Hewitts antics that he spat at Hewitt during a changeover!

The exciting Monfils matches from the Melbourne earlier this year are finally in and complete. His performance against Baghdatis is a prime example of why some believe he belongs at the top of the game. You can see all of his skills in action during this match the sliding, the running, the power, and the emotion. He even manages to crank a 190 KPH forehand in this match (119 Miles Per Hour).

As a quick and interesting side note, that Monfils forehand equaled Igor Andreevs 190 KPH forehand against Nadal in Dubai earlier this year. Amazingly, that still does not beat the 204 KPH (128 MPH) forehand Tursunov hit during the Hopman Cup this year. You have to see these shots to believe them incredible power!

Hewitt vs. Blake (6-4, 3-6, 2-6, 6-3, 6-0)(New York 2001)(The infamous racial comment match)
Hewitt vs. Blake (4-6, 7-6, 6-0, 6-3)(Melbourne 2005)
Hewitt vs. Chela (6-2, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4)(Melbourne 2005)(Chela spits at Hewitt!)
Hewitt vs. Canas (3-6, 6-7, 6-2, 6-3, 6-3)(Roland Garros 2001)(Starts at 2-1 first set)
Ferrero vs. Federer (7-5, 7-6, 1-6, 7-6)(New York 2000)(SPANISH)

Gasquet vs. Monfils (6-0, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3)(Melbourne 2007)(First 2 sets in French)
Noah vs. Wilander (6-2, 7-5, 7-6)(Roland Garros FINAL 1983)
Wilander vs. Lendl (3-6, 6-4, 6-2, 6-2)(Roland Garros FINAL 1985)

The highly anticipated Battle of the Surfaces DVD is on its way and should be available very soon. I will be sure to send another newsletter when it arrives.

Many more great matches to come including several from Estoril where Djokovic defeated Gasquet in the championship match.

5/03/07

Here is another nice batch of matches for the update this week. A lot of nice Rios matches have arrived, including some of his recent action such as his exhibition against Agassi and one of his matches against his rival on the champions tour John McEnroe!

Anyone else besides me miss Guillermo Coria? If you do, a great opportunity to see his stunning form of old is to watch the 2003 Stuttgart final against Robredo, where he only lost 5 games! You can also view another great match between Guga and Federer from the 2003 Indian Wells tournament.

Many of you have already seen Michael Chang limp his way to victory against Lendl in the 1989 French Open. Now you can see his consolidation win against Edberg in the final.

Rios vs Agassi (6-3, 3-6, 6-4)(Chilean Exhibition Event 2007)(SPANISH)
Rios vs McEnroe (6-2, 6-4)(Algrave FINAL 2006)(SPANISH)
Rios vs Ivanisevic (Paris 2006)(ITALIAN)

Chang vs Edberg (6-1, 3-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2)(Roland Garros FINAL 1989)

If you are wondering where you might be able to get to see the highly anticipated Nadal Federer Battle of the Surfaces exhibition match scheduled for this week, the answer is right here of course! I will have it available about one week after it happens (in Spanish).

That is all for this week. I still have many many more great matches to add over the coming weeks so stay tuned!

Part 2 of the big update this week, the matches are listed below. Please note that I have also obtained the FULL versions of the Dubai Final between Federer and Youzhny as well as the semi between Youzhny and Soderling. Anyone who has already purchased either of these matches from me is entitled to the full version, just email me and it will be sent to you for no charge.

Also of mention this week is Tatiana Golovin. She managed to win the first singles title of her career behind some stellar match-play in Amelia Island. In the quarterfinals she looked impressive as she crushed Venus Williams in straight sets. The next day Golovin had an epic battle against Ana Ivanovic. In the final, Golovin showed no nerves as she calmly and easily swept aside Nadia Petrova.

Among the new matches this week are some Kuerten classics. Remember the Guga of old by watching him save match point in the third set against Russell during the 2000 French Open.

3/19/07

This year's Pacific Life Open turned out to be quite entertaining despite the early exit of Roger Federer. With the world #1 gone, the youngsters of the tour made their move. 3 of the 4 semifinalists were 20 year of age or younger. Fittingly, the two most in-form players made it to the final, with neither man losing a set en route. Despite the great play of Novak Djokovic all week, Rafael Nadal found his lost confidence in the latter half of the tournament and was playing far too well to be challenged by the young Serb. Matches this week that really stood out to me were the following -

Nadal vs Roddick - Going into this match, it was unclear if Nadal would be able to cope with the booming serve of Roddick. Much to my surprise, Nadal broke Roddick 3 times after American had gone all week without facing a break point. Nadal was also winning seemingly all of the baseline rallies, playing some outstanding defense, but also some surprisingly effective offense.

Murray vs Haas - see my "match of the week" section.

Nadal vs Djokovic - Nadal played out of his mind in the first set against a nervous Djokovic. In the second set Djokovic found his footing, making for some exciting rallies.

New Matches -

Pacific Life Open (WTA and ATP)
Kafelnikov vs Stich (7-6, 7-5, 7-6)(Roland Garros FINAL 1996)

-------------------------------------

3/14/07

This is just a quick update on a few matches that recently came in. The Dubai tournament coverage, a few more Buenos Aires matches, the Rotterdam matches, and the Memphis final have all arrived

Haas vs Roddick (6-3, 6-2)(Memphis Final 2007)

BUENOS AIRES

Canas vs Nalbandian (6-4, 6-4)(SPANISH)
Monaco vs Moya (6-4, 6-7, 6-0)(SPANISH)
Horna vs Canas (4-6, 6-2, 6-2)(SPANISH)

ROTTERDAM

Youzhny vs Djokovic (3-6, 7-6, 7-5)
Youzhny vs Ljubicic (6-2, 6-4)

DUBAI

Nadal vs Baghdatis (3-6, 6-2, 6-3)
Federer vs Pless (7-6, 3-6, 6-3)
Nadal vs Andreev (6-2, 3-6, 7-6)
Youzhny vs Nadal (7-6, 6-3)
Federer vs Djokovic (6-3, 6-7, 6-3)
Federer vs Haas (6-4, 7-5)
Youzhny vs Soderling (7-5, 6-2)(Missing 5 games)
Federer vs Youzhny (6-4, 6-3)(Missing 6 games)
Haas vs O.Rochus (6-0, 6-2)

The Nadal Baghdatis and Nadal Andreev matches were particularly exciting. There was a lot of heavy hitting in the latter, and Andreev even managed to crack a 190kph forehand (119mph)!

-------------------------------------

3/11/07

The Pacific Life Open has begun and the mens draw is absolutely packed with exciting match ups. Will Nadal regain his form of a year ago and make a run here? Or will it be another display of emerging talent? Murray has only lost 3 times this year, and many (including myself) feel Gasquet is on the move again having won 4 titles so far in his short career.

Federer has some added pressure this week as well. If he can win he will break the record for the longest win streak in history, among a few other career milestones.

Just in is the Brazil Open final from last month. Canas showed that his time off was no detriment as he easily won the title in Brazil without losing a set throughout the tournament.

A kind of obscure match added this week Kuerten vs Gasquet, Brazil Open 2004. If you want to see two of the best one-handed backhands in the business, this is a great choice. Gasquet was a real youngster in this match, and he was really crushing the ball off both wings. The really interesting thing about watching players when they were very young is seeing how their technique and strategy has changed. Look closely at the Gasquet forehand in this match

New matches added

- Acapulco Final
- Las Vegas, Tennis Channel Open
- Brazil Open Final (Portuguese)

Various Others

Kuerten vs Gasquet (7-6, 6-3)(Brazil Open 2004)(PORTUGUESE)

Hewitt vs J.Johansson (6-4, 7-5, 6-3)(New York Semi 2004)(FRENCH)

-------------------------------------

2/26/07

This week was a week of one sided finals. Haas, Henin, Youzhny, Williams, and Monaco all won titles without losing a set. In Memphis, Tommy Haas was nearly perfect all week and did not face a break point for the entire tournament. Henin remains undefeated in Dubai after the defeat of Amelie Mauresmo. Youzhny scored a win for the first time against Ljubicic in the final of Rotterdam. Monaco broke through to win his first title in Buenos Aires. Venus Williams had a successful comeback after defeated Peer easily in the Memphis final a match that was nearly a mirror performance of her sisters Melbourne win last month.

Also in this week is a lot of various WTA classic matches.

2/19/07

This week, young British hope Andy Murray defended his title in San Jose by winning the SAP Open for the second time in a row. His obstacles this year were no easier than lasts he had to overcome two of the biggest serves in tennis just to defend his 175 ranking points. In the quarters, Murray edged pass Lee in a third set tie break. The next day in the semis, Murray overcame Roddick once again to book his spot in the final. His opponent on Sunday was the 610 Croat Ivo Karlovic, who was averaging 22 aces per match during the tournament. Murray was only able to win a single point off the Karlovic first serve in the first set, but slowly the Scot was able to pick up the subtle tendencies and he fought his way back from a set down to clinch the title in a third set tiebreaker.

If you are a Rafter fan, that this week at the Tennis Nexus is for you! A whole bunch of Rafter matches have arrived, see list below. Remember all matches are English unless otherwise noted.

Safin vs Sampras from the 2002 Melbourne has arrived as well. This is a really great match. Safin had to go through Sampras to make it to the final that year, and the fourth set was a tight one 12-10 in the tiebreak!

On another note, please note that it is Presidents Day today so orders will be delayed an additional day due to the post office being closed.

More Melbourne matches just in. It is important to note just how well Fernando Gonzalez played up until the final against Roger Federer. In his matches against Hewitt, Blake, Nadal, and Haas, Gonzalez was playing the best tennis of anyone in the draw and arguably the best he has ever played in his life. His differentials during these matches were truly spectacular. You don't even have to be a Gonzalez fan in particular - any tennis fan can appreciate the quality of his play in these matches.

There are still more Melbourne matches to come.

The Melbourne has just started and has the potential to be a great one. Matches added recently include some Hopman Cup matches and some WTA matches from the last couple weeks. If you get the chance take a look at some of the Tursunov matches from the Hopman Cup. He really showed some great stuff in the relaxed environment. Also in is the 2001 New York match, where Kuerten came back from 2 sets to love down to defeat Max Mirnyi in an extraordinary night match.

Also in is the 89 Davis Cup match between Becker and the New York Boys Final from 2006.

I hope everyone is having a nice time during the holiday season. First off let me say thanks to everyone who had patience while waiting for their orders this month and sorry for the lack of newsletters. However all you tennis fans have quite a bit to look forward to. In this update, I have added some very nice, rare matches. Perhaps you've seen Agassi and Rafter play those stunning Wimbledon semi-finals in 2000 and 2001, or their epic match down under in 2001. Well here are a few more of their head to head clashes, stretching all the way back to 1993. Also in is the great 5 set match from the 2002 Melbourne between Haas and Federer (in French).

Here is the one I am really excited about - the doubles match from 1999 featuring Federer and Hewitt playing together as teenagers! It is quite entertaining to watch these rivals team up on the grass of Wimbledon as they play a close 5 setter against Rafter and Bjorkman. It begins at 4-2 in the second set but there is still plenty of tennis to enjoy.

And of course, we cannot forget the Nadal fans. Just in is the last of his matches from the New York that has been missing from my collection, the R32 match against Wesley Moodie.

9/24/06

What a weekend! The Davis Cup Semifinals took place with exciting action in both Argentina and Russia!
If you happened to catch the quarterfinal action in 2005 between Australia and Argentina, or any of the matches in which Hewitt has faced an Argentine, you may know of the hostility that these two nations seem to have for each other when it comes to tennis. With a highly active crowd behind them, the Argentinians crushed Australia 3-0, with one of the matches being a thrilling 5 set encounter between Lleyton Hewitt and Jose Acasuso. Argentina will now face Russia in the final, in Russia.

Andy Roddick and James Blake came to Russia with high hopes and top ten rankings. However the Russians on home soil proved to be too much for them to handle. Safin faced Roddick in the first rubber, and convincingly won in straight sets. The Russian showed his ability to keep his head when it really counts and displayed some of his best tennis of the year. Youzhny, coming off his stunning semifinal run at the New York earlier this month, continued his excellent form defeating Blake in 4 sets. On day 2, the Bryan brothers lived up to their number one doubles ranking and dismissed the Russian tandem of Tursunov and Youzhny in straight sets. On day 3, it was a suprise to see the Russian captain put Tursunov in the singles match against Roddick instead of Youzhny. But after Tursunov showed brilliant play to take the first two sets it seemed that the captain had made the right decision. Knowing the hopes of his teamates and his country were on the line, Roddick turned up the heat, and hit aggressively in the next two sets to bring the match to a standstill. But the match was far from over. Tursunov and Roddick played on and on. Roddick valiantly saved 3 match points and pushed the fifth set until 17-15, when Tursunov won the match and a place in the Davis Cup final for his country after a 4 hour and 48 minutes.

New matches include the Davis Cup Semifinal action, the New York 2006, and the following -

Agassi vs Chang (6-1, 6-7, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1)(New York 1994)

New matches in today - the remainder of the Wimbledon matches. What a great tournament it was this year. Dont miss all the classics that werent broadcast in the US! A lot of great tennis was played with many fans in the States not even being aware of it. The thrilling 5 setter between Haas and Berdych, the 2 set to 0 comeback by Gonzalez against Safin, and every second of Federer absolutely crushing his first two opponents are now available to watch at your leisure.

Also in are a couple matches from Newport and Indianapolis. The semifinal in Newport between Gimelstob and Murray was a sight to see. The 65 American was giving it his all, constantly diving onto the court to make some truly incredible flying volley winners. The final in Indy was a thriller as well, with the top 2 Americans battling it out. Andy seems to be improving after some help from Jimmy Connors but Blake proved he belongs at #5 in the world by holding his own in the third set tie-breaker with some incredible shotmaking.

Next week there are some real gems arriving. Ever wonder what a match up between the two Swedes Joachim and Thomas Johansson would look like? How about a match up between the feisty Chilean Marcelo Rios and good old Roger Federer? How about an early display of Richard Gasquet when he was only 17? Stay tuned for those and much more!

6/29/06

Also look forward to some of the thrilling Halle matches, which will be in next week.

Have fun watching Wimbledon and until next time...

Matt

Rafael Nadal defended his title yesterday to take his second major title. He also became the only man to beat Federer in a major final, increased his head to head record against Roger to 6-1, and prevented the world #1 from completing the career grand slam.

As listed, I will be getting a few more Roland Garros 2006 matches. However they will take a week or two to arrive.

I also have to shut the Tennis Nexus down from wednesday, June 14th until the following wednesday, June 21st. When the site returns, expect at least 7 matches from Stella Artois. Please refrain from emailing during this period as it is highly likely that your email will not be checked and possibly deleted.

New matches -

Philippoussis vs Ferrero (7-5, 6-3, 1-6, 2-6, 6-0)(Davis Cup FINAL 2003)
Cash vs Lendl (6-4, 2-6, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2)(Melbourne 1988)

------------------------------

6/05/06

New matches in today, some old French Open classics! If you have not seen the Graf Hingis match I highly reccomend it. Hingis lost her composure after getting a bad line call during the end of the second set. She actually crossed the net to inspect it! The crowd completely turned against her and Steffi came back to win. Hingis was even serving underhand! Hingis left court and had to be brought back to the trophy presentation by her mother.

Also some match updates - I have a higher quality version of the 1995 Roland Garros Final, and the higher quality NBC version of the 2005 Roland Garros final.

NEW MATCHES

Jim Courier vs Andre Agassi (3-6, 6-4, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4))(Roland Garros FINAL 1991)

Graf vs Hingis (4-6, 7-5, 6-2)(Roland Garros FINAL 1999)(Famous drama filled, controversial match!)
------------------------------

5/23/06

With Nadal and Federer out of Hamburg it gave the rest of the field a huge opportunity. Tommy Robredo of Spain grabbed that opportunity and defeated Radek Stepanek in the Hamburg Masters final, claiming his first Masters Shield and moving into the top 10. Roland Garros starts next week!

------------------------------

5/14/06

Two clay masters series tournaments have passed, and together Nadal and Federer completely dominated the field. They met in the final for both tournaments and gave us two great battles. However the recent Rome final was superb as it lasted over 5 hours and ended in a tense tie break. Federer had 2 match points but Nadal held his ground and took his first own match point in the tiebreak to beat Federer, reclaim the title, tie the record for the longest clay court streak, and tie the record for the most titles won as a teenager. Don't miss this one it was fantastic!

3/26/06

Sorry for the lack of updates in the news page, I recently had some surgery which I am now finally recovered from. I appreciate all those that wished me well and apologize to any that had delays on their orders.

New matches in, lots of Nadal matches and even more Pacific Life Open matches. What makes these special is that they were never aired in the US, so those who never got to see them, don't miss out. Srichaphan Nieminen was especially exciting and contained the point of the tournament which involved Srichaphan sliding into full splits.

Look forward to Miami matches now.

Today was the final day of the Melbourne. The miraculous story of 20 year old Marcos Baghdatis was the focus of most tennis fans around the globe with his stunning run to the final where he met Roger Federer. For the first two sets, Marcos showed the absolute best of himself matching Federer in every aspect and even outplaying him at some points. After losing a 40-0 lead to push the second set into a tie break, Marcos unfortunately was not the same player. Federer sensed the deflation of the Cypriat and pounced, taking the set 7-5 and winning the next two 6-0 and 6-2 capturing his 7th slam title. The trophy presentation was something special in itself. Federer, after receiving the trophy from his idol and tennis legend Rod Laver, was unable to maintain his composure and let his emotions be known to the entire world. Don't miss this excellent Melbourne Final.

New matches include of course, the Melbourne 2006. I still have some more coming so if there is a match you wanted to see that I don't have, let me know and I will tell you if I am going to get it.

Roger Federer has a commanding lead in head to head over Hewitt and has beaten him the last 9 times they have played together. You have to go all the way back to 2003 to notice Hewitt's last victory over Federer. The victory came at the semifinals of the Davis Cup in 2003, where Australia was playing Switzerland in Australia. Hewitt was down two sets to love against Federer but used the energy of the crowd to make a stunning comeback and defeat Roger to win the tie. This is an extremely rare match so don't miss it!

Out of the bleakest tournament of the year comes one of the greatest upsets in all of tennis history. David Nalbandian came back from two sets down to snatch the year ending tennis masters cup title defeating the world number one Roger Federer. The Argentine stoped Federer from equaling the best winning record in tennis, John McEnroe's 82-3 record in 1984. Federer ended the year just shy of this record by one match. Nalbandian is the only Argentine since Vilas to win this tournament. Don't miss this four and a half hour shocker!!

Nadal has done it yet again. With dual knee injuries, Nadal blazed through the Madrid Masters tournament until he met his match in the final. After falling down two sets to none to a perfect Ljubicic, Nadal found his game and the momentum shifted. Ljubicic found his game again in the fifth set, pushing Nadal to a tie break. On match point Ljubicic netted a forehand and Nadal fell to the fround, winning his 11th title of the year and 4th masters series. Nadal and Federer are the only players to earn 4 masters titles in one year. It seems fate is keeping the world #1 and #2 away from each other until the Masters Cup, which will be a thrilling episode for sure.

Wildcard and teen sensation Andrew Murray made a great run at the Thailand Open to make it to the final against world #1 Roger Federer. En route to the final, Murray upset Ginepri and the home favorite Srichaphan, each in 3 sets. This yound gun seems to be able to do something that is rare among many of the young players, which is pull out of close matches and not choke. Today it was back to reality as Federer made sure to put an impression on the youngster beating him 6-3, 7-5.

What an exciting New York this year. The americans made a miraculous run owning the bottom half of the draw. Fittingly the elder schooled the youngsters until he hit Federer. Agassi played his heart out, but in the tiebreak he played a couple loose points and Fed picked up his game. It was a matter of about 15 minutes and it was over, Federer won his 6th grand slam title and successfuly defended his New York win.

It looks like the underdog Argentina has done it! Nalbandian beat Hewitt to clinch the tie - in straight sets! Prior to that there was a heated battle between Hewitt and Coria in thier match. Insults and gestures were flying both ways. The Argentines also won the doubles match in straights.

Russia was able to advance to the semifinals also. First Nikolay Davydenko beat Richard Gasquet 62 46 62 61 to level the tie, and then in a remarkably one-sided fifth rubber, Andreev trounced the luckless Mathieu to send Russia into an away semifinal against Croatia.
